That's So Me
For as far as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a
doctor. A healer to many, a beacon of hope for those seeking relief. I always
had some aspiration to put on that white coat and make all the difference in
the world. This is a dream that has never been just a flash of childhood
fantasy but a constant source of direction for my daily goals and aspirations.
I am Roman Querubin III, a 14-year-old STE student from Ilocos Sur National
High School. It carries my family legacy because of my grandfather and father,
who motivated me to fight for the name while forging my path. I wish for myself
to be dedicated, compassionate, and endlessly curious, always ready to take up
challenges and hungry for more learning.
Recently, a moment presented itself that
strengthened my conviction for this dream. While playing sports with friends one
day, one of them slipped and injured his arm. I could see the pain reflected on
his face as he tried to move. Without any thought, I rushed over and
instinctively applied ice to his arm, keeping him quiet. Sitting beside him,
helping him be in the moment that he needed me for, I felt the swell of
purpose. I understood why being there for someone when they needed it was a
calling rather than simply a responsibility. At this moment I was no longer
merely helping a friend; I was becoming the doctor I wanted to be, the one who
cares can think on his feet, and is sympathetic. This experience made me
realize that my dream of becoming a doctor is well beyond academic excellence;
it means an impact to be brought to the individuals and the community as well.
Every little gesture reminds me why I want to spend my whole life healing and
helping others.
Plan to make dreams a reality in the future. My main thrust of agenda is to
excel in science and math since they form an important backbone in my pursuit
of a course in medicine. I plan out daily goals for myself on how to work
through difficult problems and review my routine often. I also look forward to
volunteering with health-related organizations to get firsthand experience,
which will enable me to have a deeper appreciation of the field of medicine.
Science and math clubs will place me in a setting to share my passion with my
peers, thus providing me with a supportive environment with growth potential. This problem-solving and effective communication will prepare me well
for the clinical life that awaits me during medical school and a healthcare career. I am ready to embark on this adventure, determined and purposeful,
with an excitement that will positively impact the world of medicine.
